It is recommended that Shraad be done during Pitrapaksh
For doing Shraad a Brahmin (Prohit) is required.
If you cannot invite a Pundit, at the end of Pitrapaksh you should prepare a
ceedha , clothes and dakshina and take it to your family Pundit after following the simple procedure below.
Plant a kusha grass in a pot or in the ground.
(If you cannot plant a kusha grass, you can make a kusha ring and keep it safe for all the days you are going to make offerings).
Use water, till and a tulsi leaf and offer the water while chanting the following:
Offer to the east and say: Om Brhamhanay Tripyantam [5 times]
Offer to the west and say: Om Vishnavay Tripyantam [5 times]
Offer to the north and say: Om Rudrasya Tripyantam [5 Times]
Offer to the south and say: Om Yamaaya Tripyantam [5 Times]
Offer in the middle:
Om Deo Pitri Tripyantam
Om Rishi Kool Pitri Tripyantam
Om Guru Kool Pitri Tripyantam
Om Maata Kool Pitri Tripyantam
Om Pita Kool Pitri Tripyantam
Om Sarvay Kool Pitri Tripyantam
Om Sarva Bhandhu Pitri Tripyantam
Om Sarvay Kool Samasta Pitri Tripyantam
Om Saravy Pitri Tripyantam
Food Offering:
Use Food/Fruit, Water, Milk, Till and Tulsi.
Put a kusha grass below the food and inside the water and milk.
Offer the food, water and milk whilst saying the following:
Om Shri Vishnavay Namaha,
Sarvey Pitri Naivaidyam, Jalam, Ksheeram Daanam
Idam Tubhyam Swadha Namaha
Prayer on behalf of all and say:
Om Namo Bhagwatey Vaasudevaaya [3 Times]
Om Tat Sat
